I ended happily Fisher-long search for a speaker system for MP3 player pocket. The iLuv iSp100 is perfect for this use - compact, relatively inexpensive, autonomous with its own micro-contact. Runs on 3 AAA batteries so it will not drain your MP3 player. The speakers come with a drawstring bag and the right size to pack or pocket. The sound? I first tried to Glenn Gould play the Goldberg Variations, and found a good variety of sounds - mid-range solid metal and definitely not at the top.
